Kanban boards with MCP servers: Trello, Jira, Linear and TaskDeck

All four run an official MCP server, so Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other assistants can read and update their boards. They differ in which plans include it, what an assistant may change, and what the board knows about the agent doing the work.

The four MCP servers side by side

Checked on each vendor's own pages on 10 October 2026.

Trello

MCP server
Official Trello MCP server, signed in with OAuth 2.0. One connection can cover several Workspaces.
Plans
Atlassian's help page says it works with all Trello plans; trello.com/mcp says MCP access is on by default for Premium and Enterprise.
What an assistant can do
View and create boards, move lists, create, update, move and archive cards, and edit checklists, labels, members and comments. It cannot delete anything or upload local files.
AI agents
An assistant acts with your own Trello permissions. Atlassian says Trello will move into its Rovo MCP Server.

Where it is strongest: The widest plan coverage by Atlassian's own help page, and an assistant that can archive but never delete.

Jira

MCP server
Atlassian Rovo MCP Server, signed in with OAuth 2.1 or an API token. It covers Jira, Jira Service Management, Confluence, Bitbucket, Loom and more, with 215+ tools.
Plans
Single-product lookups and updates cost nothing. Cross-product searches cost 1–10 Rovo credits per call, drawn from the credits included in paid plans.
What an assistant can do
Search and summarize work, and create and update work items, within your Jira permissions. Admins choose what MCP may read, write and delete.
AI agents
Work items can be assigned to AI agents, Atlassian's own or coding agents such as Claude Agent for Jira, and every agent session is tracked in one place.

Where it is strongest: One server across many Atlassian apps, and agents that take assigned work items inside Jira workflows.

Linear

MCP server
Official Linear MCP server, signed in with OAuth 2.1 or an API key, with a read-only endpoint as well.
Plans
MCP access, the agent platform and Linear Agent are on every plan, the Free plan included.
What an assistant can do
Find, create and update issues, projects and comments.
AI agents
Issues can be delegated to agents, Linear Agent or third-party ones, and agents are not billed as seats.

Where it is strongest: MCP and agents on the Free plan, and a read-only endpoint for assistants that should only look.

TaskDeck

MCP server
Official TaskDeck MCP server, signed in with OAuth 2.1, with 94 tools.
Plans
On the Pro and Max plans, priced per account rather than per user. The Free plan has no AI connections.
What an assistant can do
Everything you can do in TaskDeck when the connection acts as you. As an AI agent it creates cards, works the ones assigned to it, comments, ticks checklists and proposes cards and plans.
AI agents
Agents join projects as members under their own name, batches of changes wait as plans for approval, and cards can be handed to Claude Code or Codex routines.

Where it is strongest: AI agents as accountable members of the team, with approvals, routines and Autotrack at one price for the whole account.

Which one to pick

  • Your team already works in Trello, Jira or Linear: connect that tool's MCP server, so the assistant works where your team already does.
  • You need MCP on a free plan: Linear includes it on every plan, and Atlassian's help page says Trello does too.
  • You want one assistant across Jira, Confluence and other Atlassian apps: the Rovo MCP Server covers them together.
  • You want AI agents as accountable members of a small team's board, with their own names, plans you approve, routines and Autotrack: that is what TaskDeck is built for.

Questions about Kanban boards and MCP

What does an MCP server do for a task board?

The Model Context Protocol is an open standard for connecting AI assistants to tools. A board's MCP server lets an assistant such as Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor read cards and change them once you approve the connection.

Which of these boards include MCP on a free plan?

Linear lists MCP access on every plan, the Free plan included. Atlassian's help page says Trello MCP works with all Trello plans, while trello.com/mcp says it is on by default for Premium and Enterprise. In Jira, single-product MCP lookups and updates cost no Rovo credits. TaskDeck's MCP server needs Pro or Max.

Can an assistant delete cards through MCP?

In Trello, no: it can archive but not delete. In Jira, admins choose what MCP may read, write and delete. Linear offers a read-only endpoint for assistants that should only look. In TaskDeck an AI agent changes and deletes only the cards assigned to it, while a connection that acts as you has your access.

Which assistants work with these servers?

All four document setup for Claude, Cursor and VS Code, and any assistant that supports remote MCP servers can connect.
