Import

Bring your board with you.

Import a board from Trello, Linear, Jira Cloud or GitHub Issues into a TaskDeck project. The import runs in the background and opens as a new board with its columns, cards, labels and comments.

How an import runs

  1. Open Import

In Project settings → Boards, a project admin chooses Import and picks Trello, Linear, Jira or GitHub Issues.

  2. Give it what it needs

The Trello export file, a Linear API key and team, a Jira site, email, API token and project, or one of the project’s connected GitHub repositories.

  3. Name the new board

Choose the board’s name and a key prefix the project doesn’t use yet and, for every source but Trello, whether finished items come too.

  4. Watch it fill

The import runs in the background while the dialog counts the cards so far, then shows what came over and what was skipped, and opens the board.

What comes over from each tool

Trello

You need
The board’s JSON export, from Print, export and share → Export as JSON.
Comes over
Lists as columns, and cards with their descriptions, start and due dates, named labels as tags, checklists with what is done, and comments.
Stays behind
Archived lists and cards, colour-only labels, members and attachments. Trello’s export holds only recent activity, so a busy board’s oldest comments may be missing.

Linear

You need
A personal API key, then the team to import.
Comes over
Workflow states as columns, with canceled issues in Closed, and issues with their descriptions, due dates, up to 20 labels, up to 30 comments, assignees matched by email and parent links.
Stays behind
Estimates, attachments and archived issues.

Jira Cloud

You need
Your Jira site on atlassian.net, the email of your Atlassian account and an API token, then the project.
Comes over
Statuses as columns in their category’s order, and issues with formatted descriptions and comments, labels, due dates, original estimates, assignees matched by email and parent links.
Stays behind
Attachments and sprints.

GitHub Issues

You need
A repository already connected to the project, with the TaskDeck GitHub App’s Issues permission.
Comes over
To Do, In Progress and Done columns: open issues in To Do, completed ones in Done and not-planned ones in Closed, with their text, labels, up to 100 comments and assignees who linked their GitHub account.
Stays behind
Pull requests and milestones.

For every source

Imports are on every plan, Free included. Only project admins can import.

  • Finished items come only when you ask for them.
  • Each description gets a line saying where it was imported from, with a link.
  • Comments arrive with the original author’s name and date written into them; authors aren’t matched to TaskDeck accounts.
  • An assignee is kept only when someone with that email, or that linked GitHub account, can open the new board.
  • Nothing is attached, from any source.
  • Imported cards send no notifications, Slack posts or webhooks.
  • Keys and tokens are used for that import only and erased when it ends.
  • A failed import removes its half-built board.
  • Up to 2,000 cards per import, oldest first; the rest are counted as skipped.
  • One import at a time per project. Importing again makes a new board; nothing stays in sync.
